There is no magical trick to training horses. There is and can be a magical relationship between the horse and human. This leads to a trust and respect between horse and human. This is called horsemanship, using the horses’ language it becomes natural horsemanship. That is the concept at Cochise Stud. Resident trainer is Derek O'Byrne-White. Prior to taking up the reins again Derek was a former Businessman in the IT Software market. Now fulfilling his dream working with Horses. Having attended clinics by World Champions like Bob Avila, Craig Johnson, Bozo Rodgers. Derek is keen to show what works with his horses.
At Cochise the main concepts on training horses and people is very simple. "Learning by doing". No two humans or horses are the same characters. As human's we have different cultures and backgrounds. The horse is also the same. So the training for both horses and humans can change depending on the horse or person we're working with. However the training is totally based on natural horsemanship, a relationship between the horse and human.
As a former General Manager & Marketing Director, Derek spent allot of time working with people on a sales and training level. To motivate people to sell a product and be able to assess and rectify any technical problem that occurred. Now he applies this same concept to training horses and indeed people to ride horses. There is no secret to this concept. It's called communication, and the ability to apply this communication to the extent that the person understands and the horse is willing to trust you. |
